Preg O’Donnell & Gillett is pleased to announce that Rodney Q. Fonda has joined the firm in an Of Counsel capacity. Rod is one of the premier maritime and transportation lawyers on the west coast. For over 35 years Rod has represented marine insurers and other marine and transportation interests, handling defense, coverage, and subrogation cases. He has tried jury and non-jury cases in Washington and Oregon in state and federal courts, litigating issues ranging from personal injuries on fishboats to salvage claims to marina fires.

After graduation from Yale and Michigan Law School, Rod moved to Seattle where he has spent his entire legal career. He rose from associate to become a principal of the maritime boutique firm of Madden Poliak. For the past ten years he has been at the national firm of Cozen O’Connor, where he continued his maritime and transportation practice. Over the years, he has handled cases involving every type of vessel, including yachts, fishboats, tugs and barges, and container ships, as well as cargo claims on every type of conveyance, whether ocean, inland, or air. Rod has also represented insurance brokers and marine surveyors in professional liability claims.

Consistent with the firm’s Core Values of Excellence and Service, Rod’s arrival allows Preg O’Donnell & Gillett to expand its professional services not only to marine clients and insurers but also to other insurers who find themselves involved in claims arising from tangential areas of transportation and general liability.
