Professional Experience

Barb Schmidt grew up on a wheat farm in central Kansas.  After college, she moved to Southern California and worked as a newspaper reporter and news editor and then as an administration manager for a large commercial property insurance company.  Family ties eventually brought her to the Puget Sound area, where she worked in various staff positions at two Seattle law firms before and during law school.

After earning her law degree, Barb moved to New York City and enjoyed working as a litigation associate at the Wall Street firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.  But those family ties brought her back home to Seattle, where she was employed as a litigation associate at a small firm for over seven years and then took a couple years off to pursue other interests.

In 2000, Barb returned to the legal field as the Firm Administrator at Eklund Rockey Stratton, P.S., and eventually resumed practicing law as an associate, working with Mary C. Eklund (then managing shareholder of Eklund Rockey Stratton).  In October 2010, Barb joined Mary in moving their legal practice, with its emphasis on accountants liability, to Preg O’Donnell & Gillett PLLC.

Barb graduated with distinction from the University of Kansas School of Journalism, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.  She attended the University of Washington School of Law, served on Law Review and the Moot Court Honor Board and graduated in 1989.
