Professional Experience

Mr. Cornell’s practice focuses on the representation of owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and commercial landowners in all types of real estate, construction, and complex commercial matters.  He is also an experienced business attorney, assisting clients at various stages from entity formation, raising capital, mergers and acquisitions and regular risk management and contract advice.  Mr. Cornell is a regular speaker at various real estate and construction-related seminars.

Prior to joining Preg, O'Donnell & Gillett, Mr. Cornell was the managing partner at the law firm of Lorber, Greenfield & Polito. He previously had served as director of litigation management for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, and as in-house counsel for a regional homebuilder.

Mr. Cornell is an experienced mediator and arbitrator, and has served in this capacity in a variety of legal fields.

Education

Mr. Cornell received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at San Diego in 1982.

He received his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1989, where he also served as Law Review Managing Editor.

  • Mr. Cornell is a regular speaker at various construction-related seminars including the West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Seminar in May of 2013, the WDTL Construction Law Seminar in February of 2014, and the MC Consulting Construction Defect Seminar in September of 2014.
