David Chawes, Associate at Preg O’Donnell & Gillett, PLLC, will be making a presentation on the Stute decision and its aftermath at the Pacific Northwest Occupational Health Conference, in Bellingham, Washington, on October 12, 2012. In the Stute decision, the Washington Supreme Court held that general contractors have primary responsibility for construction site safety. Following decisions expanded general site safety responsibilities to lower tier subcontractors and to landowners who acted in the same type of role as a general contractor. The Pacific Northwest Occupational Health Conference, held annually, is attended by a wide variety of safety professionals, risk managers, industrial hygienists, and occupational health doctors and nurses from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia.
